Privacy and Cookie Policy

This notice explains how your personal data is processed when you visit volkanozdamar.com, as required by Article 13 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and Article 10 of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 ("KVKK").

1. Data controller

The data controller is Volkan Özdamar. For any question or request about this notice, write to volkan@volkanozdamar.com.

2. Visitor statistics (Rybbit)

To understand which pages are read and to improve the content, this site uses Rybbit, a privacy-focused analytics service. Rybbit only runs if you give your consent; if you don't, the Rybbit script is never loaded and no statistics are sent.

If you consent, the following data is processed:

Rybbit does not use cookies. To tell visits apart within the same day, an anonymous hash is created from the IP address and browser details using a key that changes every day. This data is not used to identify you, build a profile or show ads, and it is not shared with third parties.

3. Legal basis and collection method

Statistics are collected automatically through your browser on the basis of the consent you give in the consent banner shown on the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a), KVKK Art. 5(1) and 9(1)).

4. Recipients and transfers

The data is processed and stored on Rybbit's servers, acting as a service provider. Since these servers may be located outside your country, your consent also covers the transfer of this data abroad for this purpose. The data is not transferred to anyone else.

5. Retention

Statistics are kept for at most 24 months and then deleted.

6. Data stored in your browser

The site keeps only two preferences in your browser's local storage (localStorage): the theme you chose (light/dark) and your answer to the statistics consent. They never leave your device and are strictly necessary for the site to work.

7. Third-party resources

Fonts and icons are loaded from Google Fonts, cdnjs (Cloudflare) and unpkg so that pages display correctly; loading them technically sends your IP address to these services. Book covers on the Readings page come from Goodreads, and embedded content in some posts comes from the respective platforms (e.g. YouTube).

8. Withdrawing consent

You can withdraw your consent at any time with the Cookie preferences link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

9. Your rights

Under GDPR Articles 15–22 and KVKK Article 11 you have the right to access your data, to have it rectified or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, to know who it has been transferred to, and to claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
